The festival was launched in 1992 on the wave of enthusiasm from energetic female University Wrocław students who organised a annual festival to promote early music spanning the Middle Ages and Baroque. „May with Early Music” continues to attract a variety of audiences. The modest festival series has been one of the most popular events promoting local artists and intriguing phenomena in settings such as Wrocław and elsewhere in Lower Silesia.

The goal of the festival is to promote children’s, youth and student early music ensembles. Concerts are set in locations embodying the spirit of the music, music enthusiasts entering a kind of time machine to appreciate both the architecture and music of the era.
