5. Dziecinada International Children’s Theatre Festival

Edition of the Dziecinada International Children’s Theatre Festival. This year’s edition of one of the largest children’s theatre festival in Poland will be held from 20th to 24th September in Wrocław. Tickets for shows featured in the main programme are already available. 

The main programme of the upcoming festival brings nine shows to be performed at Impart’s Kameralna and Teatralna Halls. The first day brings the première of Zaczarowany Stół [Enchanted Table], a new show from Klinika Lalek and Wrocław’s Teatr dla Dzieci. Impart is also going to host the Oxford Pocket Theatre, who bring Shakespeare’s classic plays in new, dynamic and funny interpretations for children (Macbeth, Kameralna Hall, 21st September). With their funny songs, impressive stage design and modern multimedia shows, the Zdrojowy Teatr Animacji from the town of Jelenia Góra will persuade children that a brushing their teeth may be healthy and good fun. The show will be available with audio description and sign language interpretation (Coś na ząb [A Bite to Eat], Teatralna Hall, 21st September). A children’s theatre from Iran called Yasna Group are coming to the festival with a unique story of the King of the Sea, Busker and his beloved Rivulet (Muzyk, który zagrał księżyc [A Man who Played the Moon], Kameralna Hall, 22nd September).

Baj Pomorski from the city of Toruń are going to tell a story about a little mouse with a big heart and its friends from the woods. The show will be literally redolent of conifer trees, the stage design made with real forest material (Strach ma wielkie...zęby [Fear Has Big Teeth], Teatralna Hall, 23rd September). A fairy-tale full of vivid colours and shapes, mainly for little children, will be presented by the Puppet Theatre from Maribor, Slovenia (Małe niebieskie, małe żółte [A Tiny Blue One, a Tiny Yellow], Kameralna Hall, 23rd September). The Toihaus Theatre are going to take children on a journey with a massive fold-out book (K jak Kameleon, [C for Chameleon] Kameralna Hall, 24th September). The secret of immortality and a tribute to the world of magic, cinema and imagination will be brought together in a pantomime show from the Drak Theatre, Czech Republic (Ostatnia sztuczka Georgesa Mélièsa [The Ultimate Trick from Georges Méliès, Teatralna Hall, 24th September), while the Batida Theatre, Denmark, are going to present a black comedy music show deriving from the world of the former Eastern bloc (Człowiek zwany Rolex [A Man Called Rolex, Teatralna Hall, 22nd September).

Each of the shows will be presented twice. Morning shows cater to organised school and preschool groups of children, whereas afternoon and weekend shows are expected to attract individual young viewers and their parents or carers. Tickets for organised groups cost 8 PLN per person, individual tickets cost 10 PLN. This year’s Dziecinada International Children’s Theatre Festival has been expanded with a variety of associated events. A number of locations throughout the city are going to host open-air shows and spectacles, workshops on theatre and stage design for children, as well as discussions, lectures and meeting with experts for adult viewers. The complete programme of the festival will be announced at the beginning of September.
