Celebrated Wrocław Residents' Gallery

The exhibition featuring a collection of marble busts that represent celebrated Wrocław residents continues the tradition of the Valhalla

The exhibition featuring a collection of marble busts that represent celebrated Wrocław residents continues the tradition of the Valhalla, were eminent figures or national heroes were commemorated. The exhibition was open to the public in 1997 at the Town Hall's Burghers' Hall.

The figures in the collection include former residents of the city whose fame went well beyond its immediate surroundings. The busts represent scientists, politicians, athletes and artists from a variety of historical periods. The Gallery features 26 classic Silesian marble busts made by Wrocław-based sculptors. The collection begins with Henry the Bearded (1168–1238) Duchess Saint Hedvig (1170–1243) and comes to a close with Henryk Tomaszewski, the founder of the Wrocław Pantomime Theatre (died in 2001). The gallery also features bust depictions of Ferdinand Lassalle, Adolf Andersen, Jan Mikulicz-Radecki, Edyt Stein (Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross), Gerhart Hauptmann, Max Born, Wanda Rutkiewicz and many others.

Some of the effigies were brought to the exhibition from afar, but they are all linked to Wrocław.
