Exhibition: Former South-east of Poland in Interwar Postcards

The exhibition features over 250 works by painters and photographers, published in what used to be interwar Poland (today’s Poland and Ukraine).

The exhibition features over 250 works by painters and photographers, published in what used to be interwar Poland (today’s Poland and Ukraine).

The majority of the artefacts come from a private collector and the Poliart antiquarian bookshop. Selected items have been provided by the Medallion Art Museum (a branch of the Wrocław City Museum). The postcards depict the architecture of the cities, towns and villages from former Polish provinces of Lwów, Stanisławów and Tarnopol (today’s Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil) and the views from the mountain reserves of Gorgany and Chornohora

Many of the featured postcards were issued by popular publishers of the time: Wydawnictwo Salonu Malarzy Polskich, Wydawnictwo „Sztuka”  (both from Kraków) and  Książnica-Atlas  (Lwów). Photographs were taken by eminent photographers, including Jan Bułhak (one of the founders of Polish photography), Adam Lenkiewicz (long-standing President of the Lwów Photographic Association), Tadeusz Maciejko (its member) and many other artists. The exhibition comes with a specially designed map of interwar Poland that features places depicted in the postcards and lives of the selected artists.

The exhibition is curated by Dagna Kochanowska from the Medallion Art Museum.

Admission: 15 PLN (adults), 10 PLN (reduced).
