Around 150 works by Józef Hałas – oil and acrylic paintings on canvas, ink, watercolour and gouache paintings on papers – will be presented in the unusual space of Wrocław’s Museum of Architecture

Around 150 works by Józef Hałas – oil and acrylic paintings on canvas, ink, watercolour and gouache paintings on papers – will be presented in the unusual space of Wrocław’s Museum of Architecture in the former Bernardine church. They will be shown from the earliest works to the last one, which Hałas painted shortly before his death and which has never been presented to the public. Józef Hałas. Exhibition: Józef Hałas ‘Searches’

This is a refined choice of areas around which the artist moved all his life, trying to find the most perfect solutions i various artistic techniques. The exhibition will be an opportunity to look at nuances of colour experiments, structures or reliefs

referring to specific artistic ideas. It seems important to note that the artist enjoyed full creative freedom and liked playing with his most important artistic discoveries at the end of his life.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue and a publication of fragments of Hałas’s diaries.

Józef Hałas (1927-2015)

A painter, a professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, a member of the Wrocław Group. His compositions (abstract paintings) are a synthesis of colour and matter. Based on rhythm and symmetry, they are inspired by landscapes from childhood years. A master of colour and painting structure.

He took part in over 300 individual and collective exhibitions in Poland and abroad. The winner of many awards, including the Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis. His works are kept in many institutional and private collections, most of them in the National Museum in Wrocław.
