On 31 August 1980, representatives of the Norwegian trade unions joined the strike in the Gdańsk Shipyard. Their visit was followed by an unprecedented relief campaign for Polish people and their struggle for independence. One thousand Norwegian nationals were collecting money, sending printing machines and actively helping the dissidents and their family during Martial Law in Poland. Their slogan at the time was "Ikke glem Polen!" (Remember about Poland!). The activity was coordinated by the Solidaritet Norge-Polen (Norwegian-Polish Solidarity), whose support and cooperation with the members of Polish Solidarity, especially in Tricity and Wrocław, went down in the history of the Solidarity movement. Their activity is now commemorated with an exhibition subsidised by EOG and Norwegian funds.

The project brings a scripted exhibition that takes you on an interactive journey with multimedia exhibits and artefacts. Before you enter a gangway to the ferry that takes you all the way to Norwegian coast, you have to have your passport inspected and stamped by the Norwegian border guard. Only then can you find out more about the Norwegian-Polish relations in an exhibition that brings to mind a legendary Polish submarine called Orzeł. The section devoted to the Norwegian-Polish cooperation in the 1980s features a car redesigned to traffic mimeograph machines for Solidarity in Poland. You will also be able to break through the file of the Communist riot police.

The exhibition brings an opportunity to engage with an extremely intriguing period in the contemporary history of Poland and Wrocław through a story developed with a number of stage set, cinematic and theatrical means of expression that make a lasting impact on visitors and make your experience of history more personal and memorable..
