IFLA World Library and Information Congress

The IFLA World Library and Information Congress is the world’s biggest and most important event in the library and scientific information sector.

The IFLA World Library and Information Congress is the world’s biggest and most important event in the library and scientific information sector. The annual IFLA Congress is always held in August – each time in a different country – and brings together from 3,500 to 5,000 professionals from around 120 countries.

IFLA Congresses include the Global Libraries Voice – an overview of most important events regarding libraries, scientific information and knowledge management, a presentation of innovative projects determining the future of libraries and an exchange of experiences and opinions between most outstanding representatives of the world library sector.

Since the foundation of IFLA in 1927, Poland has hosted its congresses twice: in 1936 and in 1959. The third meeting with the world library industry – the IFLA World Congress 2017 and the related 83rd General Assembly of IFLA Members, which will be held in Wrocław from 19th till 25th August 2017 under the slogan Libraries. Solidarity. Society is an opportunity to present the achievements of Polish libraries.

The congress is an opportunity for the host country to present the professional achievements of its libraries to foreign delegates and gives a wider circle of local librarians an opportunity to contact directly the world’s most outstanding representatives of the library sector.

An important element of IFLA congresses is the Exhibit – an exhibition that brings together stands of exhibitors – sponsors offering technological solutions for libraries, which is a good opportunity to establish contacts and talk about products that make a librarian’s work easier. It is a real treat for fans of new technologies and gadgets.

Primary information about the Congress is available on IFLA’s website: 2017.ifla.org.
