‘Nature morte’ – an exhibition in the Four Domes Pavilion

Visitors will see works of foreign artists, including Barnaba Barford, Mat Collishaw, Jennifer Steinkamp, and Polish artists, including Alina Szapocznikow, Jonasz Stern and Magdalena Abakanowicz.

How has the subject of still life evolved in art? How it is approached and interpreted by modern artists? Answers to these questions can be found at an exhibition prepared in the Four Domes Pavilion of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Wrocław. Visitors will see works of foreign artists, including Barnaba Barford, Mat Collishaw, Jennifer Steinkamp, and Polish artists, including Alina Szapocznikow, Jonasz Stern and Magdalena Abakanowicz.

In Wrocław, you can watch not only works of foreign artists, but also works of ancient art, classic 20th-century artists and a few representatives of modern Polish art from the collection of the National Museum in Wrocław. These are not only paintings, but also photographs, sculptures, pottery and videos, and compositions may not resemble still life at first sight, even though they are still rooted in tradition. The huge diversity of techniques and interpretations makes this exhibition particularly attractive.

The exhibition will include around 100 works of contemporary authors from various parts of the world: from Great Britain, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland to USA, Canada, Chile, Mexico and Japan. The presented artists include, among others, Barnaby Barford, Mat Collishaw, Michael Craig-Martin, Saara Ekström, Nancy Fouts, Ori Gersht, Peter Jones, Gabriel Orozco, Marc Quinn, Victoria Reynolds, Jim Skull, Jennifer Steinkamp, Yuken Teruya, James White and Cindy Wright. The collection of the Wrocław museum will be represented by works of Magdalena Abakanowicz, Jan Jaromir Aleksiun, Andrzej Dudek-Dürer, Jerzy Lewczyński, Jadwiga Sawicka, Jonasz Stern, Alina Szapocznikow and some other artists.

The exhibition ‘Nature morte. Modern artists bring life to still life’ had its premiere in Norway in 2015 and was shown in Sweden in 2016. It is accompanied by a guide prepared by curators: Michael Petry and Małgorzata Santarek.
