In 2014, the Modern Drummer Magazine hailed Jojo Mayer as one of the 50 greatest drummers of all time. Born in Switzerland, Jojo made his first appearance on stage when he was only 2 years old with a band of his dad on double bass. When he was 18, he appeared in front of an international audiences during a world tour with Monty Alexander supporting real jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie and Nina Simone. At the beginning of the 1990s, he left Europe for New York, where he worked as a sideman with a wide variety of stellar performers. He developed his signature style with a band called NERVE, who elevated him as one of the greatest drummers and drum innovators. His advanced concepts and “reversed engineering” (reversed engineering of electronic beats performed in real time on an acoustic drum kit) created a new paradigm and opened the door to a whole new generation of musicians.

The beginnings of NERVE date back to the 1990s in New York and the legendary Jojo-Mayer-orchestrated Prohibited Beatz parties. Initially designed as an experimental platform to promote an interaction among DJs, visual artists, musicians and the audience, the collective evolved as a refined and exclusive group that originated an innovative electronic music form performed in real time by improvising musicians. The band adopted a broad spectrum of electronic styles ranging from old school Jungle, Dub Step, Glitch to Minimal and Tech House and many other and previously non-defined genres. As a result, they reached out the audience with new music based on traditional jazz improvisation, the combination of club rhythms and stylistic evolution. At the same time, NERVE embody the quintessential qualities of Rock’n Roll as they keep dazzling their lifelong fans and new generations of listeners. NERVE cross the boundary between human creativity and digital technology by creating an utterly unique form of musical expression.

Their regular line-up comprising drums, bass, keyboards and live sound system, NERVE often perform with a variety of guests from all over the world. Apart from their long-standing collaborators such as Roli Mosimann, Jason Lindner or Takuya Nakamura, they also work with Bugge Wesseltoft, Dj Shadow, MC XIS, Sean Pelton, Tim Lefebvre, Karsh Kale, MC Malik Work, Salt Cathedral, Vernon Reid, Moshen Namjoo and many others.
