Christmas Market 2017 in Wrocław

Christmas Market from 17 November until 22 December 2017 from 10 am to 9 pm. Visitors are in for a wealth of attractions and surprises.

Market Square and Plac Solny

Besides the Market Square, ul Świdnicka and ul Oławska, this year’s Christmas Market is also going to reach Plac Solny. The new location is going to feature stalls selling a variety of delicacies and signature products.

What’s new in cooking

Some of these exquisite flavours and fragrances include Alsatian pancakes known as flammkuchen, Turkish baklava, Turkish yeast cake with spinach and feta cheese, otherwise known as borek, as well as fairytale-like “Wrocław gingerbread houses". The Christmas market is also going to bring confectionery: Spanish churros, chocolate-coated fruits or Hungarian ring-shaped cakes.

Chocolate connoisseurs are in for handmade chocolate figures. The market is also about Hungarian cold meats: spicy smoked pepper sausages or traditional kolozsvári bacon.

Visitors are also in for a variety of Polish delicacies, including shashliks, pork knuckle, bigos (finely chopped meat of various kinds stewed with sauerkraut and shredded fresh cabbage), bread, Saint Martin’s croissants, szare kluchy (potato dumplings), potatoes with herring, pierogis, gołąbki (cabbage rolls) and kwaśnica (sauerkraut soup from the highlands).

There will also be barbecue dishes, beef burgers, smoked cheese with cranberries, baked chestnuts, fragrant herbs and spices, traditional Polish and Lithuanian cold meats, Hungarian lángos with filling, honeys and Austrian cheeses.

Gifts

This year’s new feature is also handmade ceramics from Ukraine, handmade Christmas decorations made with environmentally friendly materials, traditional carvings, cases or musical instruments all the way from Thailand, as well as wooden bow-ties and cuff links and decorative items and jewellery from Africa.

Jewellery lovers will be able to select from a variety of items made with precious stone, amber, silver and metalwork. Visit the market to browse a fine selection of natural linen bags decorated with colourful motifs, Christmas ceramic decorations and Lithuanian nice and comfy woollen blankets.

Next to Wrocław’s Christmas tree there is a stand where you can order a hand-painted bauble with wishes or dedication, a personal horseshoe made by a real blacksmith as a lucky charm and a commemorative coin made by genuine mint masters.

Events

The Fairytale Wood brings a variety of fairytales for children visiting the Christmas Market, including The Little Red Riding Hood, The Brave Little Tailor, The Snow White or Pinocchio.

The vicinity of the Dwarf House is going to feature an illuminated sleigh with magic presents that serves as a backdrop for a commemorative photo.

The Christmas Windmill in the Fairytale Wood, the Dwarf House by the Fredro Monument and the Fireplace House in the northern frontage of the Market Square will be serving mulled wine, hot chocolate and other hot drinks and beverages.

Next to the Christmas Windmill an unusual house will be standing for children to join morning Christmas workshop and learn how to paint baubles. Next to the Dwarf House a parking space of Santa’s sleigh and reindeer will be provided.

Standing by the Christmas tree is also a mailbox where letters and postcards can be sent all the way to Santa Claus.
