City Arsenal: Barbarian tsunami. Historic objects from the Migration Period

The period between the late 4th century and the early 6th century, called the Migration Period, was the time of intense migratory flows of barbarian tribes.

The exhibition in Wroclaw’s Archaeological Museum presents a choice of the most important historic objects from the Oder and Vistula river basin from the collections of several Polish museums. These are mainly decorations, parts of clothing, coins, and weapons from treasures and rich tombs. They allow us to illustrate the presence of various communities in Polish lands and their participation in the cultural exchange and transformations in the age of the great migration of peoples against the background of events that occurred before this period (3rd-4th century) and followed it (6th-7th century).

Among historic objects from the Archaeological Museum in Wroclaw, we can see the discoveries from the Black Sea region and the territory of France that have never been exhibited so far. The museum will also present its last purchase for the first time: a golden ring-like pendant dated at the 5th/6th century, found in the area of Pszczew in the Lubuskie province.

The exhibition combines a traditional exposition, where collectibles play a leading role, with modern technologies. A richly illustrated Polish-English publication with a commentary regarding the exhibition is on sale.
