The Wroclaw Christmas market is open until the end of the year – until 31st December, including the New Year’s Eve night

The Christmas Market in Wroclaw is an exceptional event in the calendar of Wroclaw inhabitants. Fabulous decorations of the Market Square, original Christmas dishes and drinks and dozens of other attractions draw also thousands of guests from outside Wroclaw.

The Wroclaw Christmas market is open until the end of the year – until 31st December, including the New Year’s Eve night. You can visit stands at the Wroclaw Christmas market every day from 10:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. (stands will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). On 26th December, stands will be open from 1:00 p.m.

Because of the pandemic, this year’s program of the Christmas Market in Wroclaw will not include the Parade of Elves, the Christmas Carol Singers Parade, concerts or workshops.

What are attractions on the Wroclaw market?

The Christmas Market in Wroclaw abounds in places that are particularly worth visiting with the whole family. On the Market Square, there is a number of attractions for children:

  • Fairytale Copse, where children can listen to popular fairy tales;
  • Christmas Windmill,
  • Carousel ‘Rudolph and his friends’,
  • other attractions for children.

On Plac Solny, there is a fairytale cottage where mulled wine and warm dishes are served. The cottage has a clock tower and a terrace, from which the panorama of Plac Solny and the Market Square stretches out.

The Christmas Market is held in the open air. Masks covering the mouth and the nose do not have to be worn outside, but taking precautions, such as hand disinfection, is recommended.

What to eat, what to buy

On the Market in Wroclaw, there are well above 200 wooden stalls with goods from various regions of Poland and from abroad. You can buy here, for example:

  • original regional food products, including cheeses from Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and Greece, baklava and halvah, dishes from Germany, Podlasie smoked meats, Podhale smoked sheep cheeses (‘oscypki’), cordials, wines, chocolates, gingerbreads, pralines and circular wedding breads, honeys, etc.;
  • handicraft products, e.g., jewellery, pottery, decorative home accessories: lamps, stained glass windows, vessels, bed linen, woollen products;
  • ecological products, e.g., pollen products, preserves, oils, coffees, Himalayan salt products, natural cosmetics, fruit in chocolate;
  • ready meals, e.g., waffles, grilled dishes, dumplings, Polish hunter’s stew (‘bigos’), bread with lard, borsch, sour rye soup (‘żurek’), pancakes, lángos.

Christmas stands tempt customers with a wealth of products. For example, the stand at Świdnicka with fresh cakes from the pastry shop in the village of Porszewice near Łódź is something you cannot just pass by. The cakes are fresh and aromatic, and one meter long poppy seed rolls and poppy seed cakes on sponge attract the eye. All cakes are at the price of 49 PLN per kg.

In the area of the Fairytale Copse, you can buy edible chestnuts – a paper bag of 20 chestnuts costs 25 PLN, and a smaller bag of 10 chestnuts costs 15 PLN.

A few steps farther, you can get the famous national Spanish dish: churros. They are made of fresh pastry fried in hot oil. You can buy them with sugar or cinnamon. Small churros with a few cakes in the middle are available for 15 PLN, normal churros for 20 PLN, big churros for 25 PLN, and really huge churros sufficient for two persons cost 40 PLN. Upon request, you will get churros poured with chocolate for extra 3 PLN or with whipped cream for 2 PLN.

The Christmas Market in Wroclaw could not do without famous mulled wine, a cup of which costs 15 PLN. You can choose between mulled cherry, plum, raspberry or blueberry wine. Teetotallers can order a cup of hot chocolate for 12 PLN or tea for 10 PLN.

Plan of the Christmas Market in Wroclaw

Stands on the Market in Wroclaw occupy a larger part of the Market Square, Plac Solny and ul. Świdnicka (from the Market Square to the pedestrian crossing at ul. Kazimierza Wielkiego) and ul. Oławska (from the Market Square to ul. Szewska).

In addition, SZCZEPCIObus will be available to volunteers from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. If you want to get vaccinated with a single-dose Johnson&Johnson vaccine in SZCZEPCIObus, you have to be at least 18 years old and have an identity document (an identity card or a passport). You do not have to register anywhere – you only need to visit one of the points you find convenient.

Apart from that, Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines are served – they are available also to children at the age of minimum 12 years and to persons entitled to receive the 2nd or 3rd dose.
