Esperanza Spalding is a double bassist, vocalist and composer, who has become one from the most popular personalities of world jazz in recent years. Her phonographic output contains six original albums, for which she received a total of four Grammy Awards. The first Grammy was won in the broad Best New Artist category, which had never been achieved by jazz artists before her (Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence and the Machine and Mumford and Sons were other nominees for the award at the time).
