Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: exhibition

Transferred to canvas by means of a unique technology, Michelangelo’s frescoes from the Sistine Chapel can now be admired in their original size in Wroclaw.

An unusual exhibition that has been presented in Berlin, New York, Montreal, Vienna, Dallas and Shanghai so far. Transferred to canvas by means of a unique technology, Michelangelo’s frescoes from the Sistine Chapel can now be admired in their original size in Wroclaw, in the lower church of the Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross in Ostrów Tumski.

The exhibition shows replicas of 34 Michelangelo’s frescoes situated on the vaulted ceiling and side walls of the papal chapel in the Vatican. The originals were created from 1508 to 1512 (ceiling frescoes) and from 1536 to 1541 (“The Last Judgement”) on an area covering over 700 m². The artist presented his vision and reflections on parables from the Old and New Testament.

The visitors can watch frescoes at close range, which is impossible in the real Sistine Chapel (there is a distance of over 20 m between the frescoes on the vaulted ceiling and on the floor).

By means of specialised knowledge, the paintings from the Sistine Chapel have been reproduced using state of the art technology.

Opening hours

Sunday-Thursday: from 10:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m.; entrance to the exhibition from 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Friday-Saturday: from 10:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m.; entrance to the exhibition from 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
