As a common illumination they appeared in Wroclaw in the mid-19th century.

White Stork Synagogue

The White Stork Synagogue is an important center of Jewish culture and history. In 1938 it lost its temple function and served as a warehouse for items taken from Jews after Kristallnacht. For 20 years after the end of World War II, the building again became a place of prayer, but only until the 1960s. Communist authorities once again took it away from the Jewish community. Throughout all these years, the building was neglected. Its splendor and sacred function were once again restored in 1996.

Ossolineum

Hochberg Chapel

The Hochberg Chapel is an example of Baroque sacred art. The vault is filled with seven frescoes with scenes of the sorrows of the Virgin Mary. During World War II, the church was 75% ruined. The roofs, vaults and much of the furnishings were destroyed. The elements that survived were moved to other churches. Since 1997, the church has served as the Cathedral of the Wroclaw-Gdansk Diocese of the Greek Catholic Church.
The renovation of the Hochberg Chapel took several years. The altar was assembled from 1,300 fragments found in the rubble.

Wooden church of St. John of Nepomuk

Among the greenery of Szczytnicki Park hides an unusual monument - the wooden St. John of Nepomuk Church, one of the oldest wooden religious buildings in Lower Silesia. The temple, originally built in the 17th century in Stary Kozle, was moved to Wroclaw in the 20th century, retaining its original charm. The reconstruction of the church was overseen by Wroclaw architect Theo Effenberger, among others, co-author of the WUWA exhibition.The church became famous in 1957. It turned out that for two years it had been a thief's den. It hid paintings stolen from the National Museum in Wroclaw, paintings by Matejko, Kossak and Gierymski, among others.
Today the church is listed in the register of monuments. It is no longer either a place of worship or a hideout for thieves.

Bridge of the Penitents (45 m)

Located at a height of 45 meters, between the two towers of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, it delights with picturesque landscapes of the Old Town, the Market Square and the Oder River.

There is a common urban legend about strange noises coming from upstairs. Apparently, during the hours of darkness, passersby heard moaning and the rustling of brooms sweeping the floor. So mothers began to frighten their wayward daughters, unwilling to marry, with penitent girls on the bridge, who preferred the fun and carefree life of a maiden to the duties of a wife and housekeeper.

Mathematical Tower (42 m)

The Mathematical Tower, located at a height of 42 meters in the main building of Wroclaw University, is one of the most unique vantage points in the city. Its terrace offers a picturesque panorama of the Old Town, the Oder River and the Grunwald Bridge, and in good weather you can even see Sleza on the horizon. The first 20 minutes are free, then a fee applies according to the price list. Return the bike by returning it to any station. The scooter can be put down anywhere.

Former bastions: Castle, Brickmaker’s, and Sackbut.

The main avenue of the Old Town Promenade connects the former bastions: Castle, Bricklayers' and Sackler's, which have been transformed into viewing hills. The promenade was planted with trees, rows of carefully trimmed ligustrums, and lawns and flower beds were also created. The Old Town Promenade stretches from the Sikorski Bridge to the Sand Bridge and surrounds the historic city center from the west. A significant part of it runs along the former city moat. It is a park-like green belt that was created on the site of the former city fortifications. The project, designed by Johann Friedrich Knorr, was implemented from 1812. Even then, the idea was to create a green walking path in the city center.

The Zajezdnia History Center is an extraordinary museum located in a former streetcar depot that tells the story of Wroclaw and its inhabitants in the 20th century.
