The Ślęża Mammoth Community Park in the Oporów housing estate in Wroclaw created as the winning project no. 301 of the Wroclaw Citizens’ Budget in 2014.

It is over 8 metres high and looks very impressive. The Mammoth is the main attraction of the Mammoth Park opened in Oporów on Saturday 10th November. This long-awaited investment was carried out as the winning project of the Wroclaw Citizens’ Budget in 2014. Its total cost exceeded 2 million PLN.

The location of the Mammoth in Oporów is not accidental. In the 1990s, a huge mammoth’s tusk was found there.

The park construction project was completed with the involvement of many persons. Part of them were members of the Oporów housing estate council, and part of them were employees of the Wroclaw University of Technology. A group of students gathered by Professor Alina Drapella-Hermansdorfer participated in the project, too.

The opening ceremony attracted a large crowd of inhabitants. On that occasion, shrubs and the family lime tree were also planted.

History of the project

It was a very big and non-conventional project that required the involvement of many entities. In the first place, it was necessary to terminate agreements with tenants who had occupied this area until then, and to prepare a conception of its development and agree upon the required documentation.
