Strażnik (Guardian)

Also known as Halabardnik (Halberdier) The most vigilant dwarf in Lower Silesia.

Hiding from the sight of Wrocław tourists, he crouches in a recess above the entrance to the Municipal Guards Headquarters on the Market Square. As a representative of the uniformed services, he is responsible for maintaining order among the dwarfs.

Strażnik is one of those dwarfs who don't like to be seen, so he is not easy to spot. A tireless guardian of the law, he keeps watch day and night, vigilant for any sign of transgression or iniquity. And since, as we know, you can always see better from above, he never leaves his post for fear of missing something. Wrocław Municipal Guards enjoy their cooperation with Strażnik, and he is an honorary officer. He is said to have played a role in putting a prisoner behind bars and apprehending the authors of the April Fool’s Day street renaming campaign.

While many speak highly of his vigilance and professionalism, few know that he became a guard by accident. Apparently, years ago, a dwarf rogue taunted him; scaring him with approaching danger and diverting his attention, he told him to look out for thieves, pointing his hand in the opposite direction. The prankster quickly left with his booty, and Strażnik, immersed in his role, is still on duty today, because ... no one has yet dismissed him. With time, however, he became very committed to his task, gained experience and became the most vigilant dwarf in the area, arousing fear among thieves, scoundrels and all sorts of wicked thugs. However, remembering his early days as a law enforcement officer, he did not take very well to the news of the appearance of Słupniki in the city, who with equal commitment watch for signs of danger from the tops of their lamps. When he heard that some playful dwarfs decided to climb overhead and watch the world from unnatural heights for dwarfs, he snorted with disapproval: "Huh, amateurs!”

At the end of the day, by Papa Dwarf's decision, Strażnik had to share the job with Słupniki, and the ‘Lamp Dwarfs’ had to accept his authority. To this day, however, Strażnik speaks of them in a tone of disregard and indulgence.
