World Kindness Day 2019

Już po raz 14. zapraszamy mieszkańców Wrocławia na wydarzenia związane z obchodami Dnia Życzliwości.

The idea of celebrating the day of kindness was born in the United States of America. In 1973, on the initiative of two students, brothers Brian and Michael McCormack, World Hello Day was established as a call for peace in response to the war between Israel and Egypt. This holiday has been observed on 21st November since then. In Poland, it is celebrated as World Kindness Day, and Wroclaw became the precursor of these celebrations.

21.st November 2019, Wroclaw “Kindly, together, close!”

The initiative born in Wroclaw spreads onto a growing number of cities and other places in Poland. Its aim is to promote kindness and to encourage people to do good deeds on various levels. What other city could have a better climate for this than Wroclaw – a symbol of openness and optimism? The atmosphere of this city is a mixture of positive thinking, cosmopolitanism, hospitality and a thousand other shades of kindness. To join the celebration of this holiday, you only need to smile, be kind to others, and help someone selflessly. This is an appeal against the sad and grey reality. We have the power to do this – we can change it!

This year the City and Tourism Promotion Office will invite Wroclaw inhabitants to celebrate World Kindness Day at various events for the 14th time. The slogan of this year’s edition – “Kindly, together, close!” – encourages people to reinforce social bonds and appreciate the strength flowing from the synergy of community actions.

Strength lies in the group. Together means more reasonably, more safely and more in general – these are not empty slogans, these are facts supported by science.

Kindness is being alert, sensitive and open to another person. It is a selfless philosophy of life based on positive values, mutual trust and belief that we are part of a larger whole that is worth caring about.
