Grajek (Player) and Meloman (Music-Lover)

A faithful pair of friends brought together years ago by their love of music.

Despite a lack of aptitude, they have been nurturing their supposed musical talents for years, treating passers-by to the most popular dwarf compositions.

Passers-by no longer have to try to walk away faster or put earplugs in. Their friendship goes back to ancient times, when itinerant bards travelled from town to town. One of them, an outstanding dwarven composer and singer, a certain Beth Hoven, once came to the city of Wratislavia to give a series of concerts for the local dwarfs. Amazed by his talent, the dwarfs gathered in masses at the performance venues and the crowd in front of the stage was so big each time that only the most persistent music lovers could listen to the master at close range.

Hoven's performances particularly delighted two young dwarfs, who decided to delve into the secrets of music and take lessons from the master himself. Paid generously, the bard agreed to stay in the city a little longer to teach them the art of playing instruments, singing and composing music. However, as it soon turned out, Meloman suffered from a hearing impairment and Grajek from a speech defect. As if that wasn't enough, both dwarfs had more or less such an ear for music as if a herd of elephants had marched over their ears. So full of good intentions Hoven went all out and did his best to teach the young music lovers something.

The master's efforts were to no avail, for although he tried, Meloman was unable to play even the simplest note on any instrument, and Grajek continued to howl mercilessly. Frustrated, the bard found himself on the verge of a nervous breakdown, packed up his instruments and one dark night sneaked out of the city. Allegedly, he never visited Wrocław again, which is why dwarfs had a long-standing grudge against our heroes.

In the whole city, only these two had no idea what the cause of the great bard's unexpected disappearance could have been. Undaunted by the sudden loss of their teacher, they decided to take lessons from the city's musicians, who, however, for some unknown reason kept making excuses for their lack of time or pedagogical skills. However, this did not discourage the young musicians who, believing in their creative potential, set off to gain musical experience in the world.

Although the fate of their artistic journeys is not fully known, we only know that they returned to the city years later as quite wealthy dwarfs. Some mischievous people claim that there is nothing strange about this, after all any dwarf would have paid any price as long as they stopped playing... Another unkind rumour is that they received the money they earned for being extremely effective in chasing mice and rats out of cities.

Having returned from the big world, Grajek and Meloman decided that their nomadic creative work had matured enough and they could finally settle down in the city permanently. Their talents are nowadays used to entertain passers-by in Oławska Street, where they have positioned themselves in front of a florist's shop window. Grajek, gifted with an unquestioned faith in his own extraordinary talent, howls sorrowfully and plays the mandolin, while Meloman, unable to play any instrument, accompanies him with rhythmic muttering.
