The Mountains of Literature Festival was established in 2015 on the initiative of Olga Tokarczuk. It is a unique literary and social event, whose main goals are: cultural and civic activation of residents, cultural education, diagnosis and discussion of ecology, equal rights, identity, freedom of speech, German, Czech and Polish cultural heritage, cross-border cooperation and sustainable development of the region through culture.
The festival has an interdisciplinary character. Meetings and debates of a literary nature dominate, nevertheless they are always accompanied by concerts, discussions and popular science lectures (mainly on ecological issues, equal rights for women and communities at risk of exclusion, historical issues, counteracting nationalism and xenophobia), exhibitions, performances, mountain walks, seminars, film screenings and various workshops – aimed at adults, as well as children and young people.
