21st November: World Hello Day
Like every year in Wroclaw, we will encourage to do good deeds and share kindness. This is because of the birthday of the Friendly Dwarf, which we celebrate on 21st November.
We invite you to have a good time together on that special occasion. This year’s leading slogan of the event is: “Kindness: Pass it on!" These are the words of encouragement to share kindness, to show it to each other and to help in the belief that good things go back. When we give something to others, it is more likely that we will receive a gift!
Kindness: Pass it on!
The idea of celebrating World Hello Day was born in the United States of America in 1973, on the initiative of two students, brothers Brian and Michael McCormack. They established this day as a call for peace in response to the war between Israel and Egypt. 21st November was chosen as the day on which this secular holiday is observed. In Poland, this holiday is celebrated as World Kindness Day, and Wroclaw became the precursor of these celebrations.
The initiative born in Wroclaw spreads onto a growing number of cities and other places in Poland. Its aim is to promote communication and to encourage people to do good deeds on various levels. What other city could have a better climate for this than Wroclaw – a symbol of openness and optimism? The atmosphere of this city is a mixture of positive thinking, cosmopolitanism, hospitality and a thousand other shades of kindness. To join the celebration of this holiday, you only need to smile, be kind to others, and help someone selflessly. This is an appeal against the sad and grey reality. We have the power to do this – we can change it!

The definition of kindness: According to the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation – an American foundation promoting the idea of kindness, it is “a natural quality of the heart, expressed through an act of good will and reflecting care for self and others."
