36th PKO Wroclaw Marathon

On 9th September 2018, the 36th PKO Wroclaw Marathon will start from the Olympic Stadium in Wroclaw.

Traditional registration will end one day before the competition. At 9:00 a.m., competitors from almost 40 different countries of the world will set out on the route. On the day of the event, inhabitants of Wroclaw must reckon with transport difficulties.

The PKO Wroclaw Marathon is one of the biggest mass races in Poland. Its beginnings date back to 1983, when it was still called the Marathon of Silesians. The 36th edition of the event will start on Sunday 9th September at 9:00 a.m. The start line and the finish line will be located on the Olympic Stadium. Competitors can collect their starting numbers already from Friday 7th September; doing this at an early date is recommended so as to avoid long queues on the day of the competition.

The route of the 36th PKO Wroclaw Marathon

The last year’s route of the marathon was slightly modified with a view to competitors. This adjustment results from shifting the start line to the speedway track of the Olympic Stadium. The route is still very flat. Competitors will run across the Grunwaldzki Bridge and the Pokoju Bridge; on their route, they will pass by places such as the Wroclaw National Museum, the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, or the Botanical Garden of the University of Wroclaw. The description of the route: Olympic Stadium - Różyckiego - Most Pokoju [Pokoju Bridge] - Rondo Reagana [Reagan Roundabout] - Plac Powstańców Warszawy [Warsaw Insurgents Square] - Sienkiewicza - Grodzka - Kazimierza Wielkiego - Widok - Świdnicka - Swobodna - Ślężna - Wiśniowa - Hallera - Grabiszyńska - Podwale - Legnicka - Lotnicza - Śląska - Pilczycka - Popowicka - Długa - Kurkowa - Reymonta - Bałtycka - Obornicka - Kasprowicza - Boya-Żeleńskiego - Toruńska - Kochanowskiego - Różyckiego - Olympic Stadium.

Kilometres on the route will be marked every 1,000 m, and there will be 8 time measurement points, 8 catering points and 7 refreshment points. In the case of hot weather, water curtains will also be available. Medical aid points and toilets will be present near each catering and refreshment point.

During the 36th PKO Wroclaw Marathon, the organiser will provide 800 parking places on the premises of the nearby Volvo plant at ul. Mydlana. Car parks no. 2 and 3 will be available to marathon runners and their families. Parking will be possible free of charge from 5:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. on the day of the race. Vehicles can arrive from ul. Mydlana, and the car park will remain unguarded.

Shirts and medals refer to the 100th anniversary of regaining independence

This year’s Marathon shirt refers to the 100th anniversary of regaining Poland’s independence. Each participant of the 36th PKO Wroclaw Marathon will receive this shirt upon collection of his/her starting number in the competition office.
