40th Stage Songs Review [PROGRAMME]

Data aktualizacji: 2019-04-05

The jubilee edition of the Stage Songs Review, one of the most recognisable Wroclaw festivals in Poland, starts on Friday 22nd March and will last till the end of the month.

Fans of stage songs can expect events both in the Main Stream and in the Off Stream: the Song Interpretation Contest, the Gala concert, performances of stars, the jubilee planting of trees. Tickets have actually been sold out, but you can still hunt the last few items.

The last tickets

Tickets to most of the festival events have been sold out, but there are still few tickets to buy for three events:

  • Concert of AquaSonic from Denmark (the concert is held under the water, and artists immersed in acquariums sing and play specially prepared instruments) 23rd March, 5:00 p.m.
  • DJ Set (sur) écoute (The history of modern European music: from Wagner, Bartók and Nino Rota to contemporary hits) 23rd March, 7:00 p.m.
  • What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (The stage adaptation of the cult novel prepared by the AST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków) 25th March, 7:00 p.m.
  • We also advise you to visit the Facebook page of the festival – it is often possible to buy a ticket from someone who cannot attend the event.

40th birthday – the celebration of the jubilee

The concerts begin on Friday at 5:00 p.m. from the 2nd stage of the Song Interpretation Contest, but the celebration of the 40th birthday of the Stage Songs Review starts already at noon. At that moment, trees will be planted near the square at the junction of Stawowa and Bogusławskiego streets – initially, there will be seven (ultimately 40 in the area of Old Town), and each of them will be named after the title of a famous song that was a hit at the Stage Songs Review.

During the entire festival, songs from the 40-year-long history of the SSR will be played by a travelling orchestra, which you can listen to from 22nd March till 31st March between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. close to the Fredro Monument and then in front of Impart or Capitol shortly before the start of the first concerts at those venues.

On the occasion of this jubilee, a festival radio studio will function in the backyard of Capitol; winners of the main awards in contests of successive Song Stage Reviews will be its guests every day. Elżbieta Adamiak, Katarzyna Groniec or Artur Barciś will talk about their love of songs, the Stage Songs Review and their careers.

In Capitol, you can also watch and listen to the “Echo" IP Group installation devoted to the 40-year-long history of the Stage Songs Review.

Going towards Capitol, it is also worth stopping by at Świdnicka, where an exhibition of photographs of SSR stars taken with a smartphone by Łukasz Gawroński is open.

The final concert around our reality

This year’s final concert has two directors. The first part (the Finale of the Song Interpretation Contest) will be directed by Martyna Majewska, and the second part (the “Out of the System" concert) will be directed by Marcin Liber. Majewska announces that her proposal will be a response to the current reality, and one of the roles will be entrusted to a choir. The concert in the second part of the evening will be a mini-show strongly inspired by George Lucas’s 1971 film THX 1138.
