Long Night of Museums 2018

The regular participants are joined by debutants, and new galleries and cultural institutions invite visitors to a night sightseeing tour.

The Long Night of Museums is a highly popular event that attracts extraordinary crowds. There are a few reasons for this. The most important ones include free participation in the events and sightseeing in the company of friends and a large number of Wroclaw inhabitants and tourists.

Program

Every year over 80 institutions join the Long Night of Museums in Wroclaw, and the offer enjoys much interest from Wroclaw inhabitants and tourists.

Long Night of Museums 2019 includes:

• more than 80 institutions (museums, galleries, institutions run by NGOs, cultural centres, churches, New Horizons cinema, National Forum of Music, Hydropolis)
• special programme for children in suitable hours for whole families (28 institutions have prepared art, dance and music workshops, interactive games, and shows of films for children)
• more than 200 events (vernissages, workshops, film shows, lectures, concerts)

This year’s celebration will include MovieGate for the first time. On the Long Night of Museums, the bunker under Plac Solny will open its corridors to visitors. Other debutants are Tamka Island and Vivid Gallery. It will also be possible to visit some other places that are usually unavailable: the Nadodrze Railway Station, Oder Museum or the office of the rector of the University of Wroclaw.

Many events during the Long Night of Museums start already during the day, particularly because museums have prepared a programme of workshops and activities for children. Some institutions, such as the Mineralogical Museum or the Geological Museum, will be open already from 12 p.m. on 19^th May.

Attention: registration is required for some of the activities. Some of them begin in April.

Additional transport services

Historic tram service M1

The enthusiasts of historic Wroclaw trams can have a ride on board a 1960 Konstal tram or a 1972 102Na tram to travel between institutions in the city centre.

Tram service will be provided every 15 minutes from 5 p.m. till 11 p.m. on the following route: Pl. Społeczny, Sienkiewicza, Uniwersytet, Kazimierza Wielkiego).

Free bus service

To reach the most distant institutions, you can use special free bus service M2 provided by historic Ikarus260, Jelcz M11 and Jelcz PR110M buses.

Bus service will be provided every 30 minutes from 5 p.m. till 11 p.m. on the following route:

About the Long Night of Museums

The première edition of the Long Night of Museums was held in Berlin in 1997. Since 2001, the event has expanded to the whole of Europe, attracting 120 different cities all over the continent. The Long Night of Museums is always held at the third weekend of May and is combined with the celebration of Museologist Day. The major goal of the event is to create a meeting place between museums, their collections and the public.
