LPs from Wrocław artists

“Made in Poland” by the Leopoldinum Orchestra brings a fine selection of music inspired by Polish highland traditions. “Repetitions (Letters to Krzysztof Komeda)” from EABS open up a dialogue with the jazz tradition. “The Music of Henryk Wars” by Kuba Stankiewicz revisits the legacy of the long forgotten Polish artist who once made his name in Hollywood.

The Leopoldinum Orchestra are one of Poland’s longest present chamber ensembles in Poland. The National Forum of Music being their home, the artists recorded their latest LP with their maestro Christian Danowicz at the NFM’s Red Hall. The LP combines fiery highland traditions (Szymanowski, Lubowicz) and classical music in electric interpretation (Bacewicz). The ingenious Atom String Quartet are a great complement to the whole initiative.

The Wrocław-based jazz septet EABS are not sheepish when faced with Krzysztof Komeda’s legacy. Instead, they have come with their own ways to revisit it and bring back to life for contemporary audiences. They do this in real style, “Repetitions (Letters to Krzysztof Komeda)” already hailed as the great export product from Poland. The LP caters to jazz, soul and hip hop fans.

The jazz pianist Kuba Stankiewicz concludes his Young-Kaper-Wars trilogy devoted to Polish composers who once were successful in Hollywood with a tribute to Henryk Wars. The trio (Stankiewicz, Oleszkiewicz, Erskine) are known for their mellow sound as well as attitude.
