Wrocław is not just a city. It's a state of mind

Welcome to Wrocław. Have you been here before? That's good. You haven't? Even better. Or maybe you have been here? Anyway, it doesn't really matter. What's important is that you're here now.

Where should you start the sightseeing? But wait... why sightseeing? Is simple  “hanging around” in Wrocław not enough? Maybe it's unnecessary to follow a path carved by a guide or recommendations of your friends? Maybe it's better to find your own path? You don't have to curl up behind commonly known „top things to see”. No. You don't have to. You can. If it's worth it, see for yourself.

20th century history, and more so its first half, wasn't an easy period for the city. And even later, things would go sour. But if you look deeper into the past, you will find things that cause delight, amazement, fascination, a multitude of impressions and interpenetrating colors. What's made this city and the way you feel while walking its streets are hundreds of years of fascinating history. Not everything has been said, not everything has been written. And fortunately so. Today, one may fill out the blank spaces for oneself, and choose the way one wants to feel this mesmerizing city. Because this city has a soul, and no one can even doubt it. It's not perfect – it's certainly not as one would think of Louvre in Paris, Colosseum in Rome or Tower of London.

However Wrocław isn't competing with anyone. It knows its imperfections, with terrible 20th century history in the lead. But thanks to its openness, varied and multicultural freedom, the city gives the aforementioned choice. It doesn't define sightseeing as a process of following a map drawn by someone else. It does not "rank" monuments in the "must see" category. Of course it offers, woos, strives to attract interest. After all, there is a business context in the passion of sharing. But let's not get crazy - money is not really everything. You can spend a weekend in Wroclaw and leave a few thousand zlotys here. But you can also spend a week here and pay very little for it, enjoying what the city gives "for free". For everything else you can pay by credit card master-something ....

Perhaps for you, the atmosphere of the city will be built by its dark secrets, left by history in such large quantities that writing all of them down is actually impossible. But maybe that's not the point? How should we know that? Maybe it is the trail of medieval monuments that will be the best asset the city has to offer to you? It is hard to be surprised by such an approach. But this is not the end yet. Wroclaw is a city of music. It is easier to list those artists who did not play or sing in Wroclaw. We assure you - this list is a very short one…

Let's change the point of view and flip it over. And then flip it over once more. You're in Wroclaw for 6 hours, your primary goal is to fill your stomach, recharge the batteries. Follow the trail of good taste that will lead you to the harbor called “umami”. What is it? Most of you probably know this term well. However, it is difficult to convey its specificity in written words - it just needs to be experienced.

Wrocław would not be what it is if it were not for the Oder. The landscape would not be dominated by the greenery if it were not for the Wroclaw parks. To the west, magical Bystrzyca Valley (have you ever seen the Mill in Jarnołtów ...?), to the north stand proudly Cat Mountains, to the south ... Sudetes. The capital of Lower Silesia is like a nucleus of attractions, whose splitting causes innumerable explosions. Each one has its own value, color, each can be felt separately, or gathered in a shopping cart of experiences that will make you want to return here. Or stay forever.

You cannot go around Wroclaw simply sightseeing. Wroclaw has to be felt through. It does not hide itself behind administrative borders. You could, however, risk a rather controversial thesis that Wrocław ends where the visitors take it. If you are here, live, pay taxes, Wrocław ends within your home. But maybe you came here from afar. Then you take the border with you. And by keeping your memories safe, you can cross the border, whenever you feel like it. Or you stay within it. Everything depends entirely on you.
