In Wroclaw, there are many conveniences for persons travelling by car, with a large number of parking places available (mostly against payment) in the centre. Remember, however, that many Old Town streets are closed for traffic and reserved for pedestrians and cyclists.

In Wroclaw, there are many conveniences for persons travelling by car. In the centre and close to the city’s most attractive points (the Zoo, the Centennial Hall, the Hydropolis, the Wroclaw Główny railway station, the Wroclaw Stadium, the airport), there are car parks and parking places:

  • Wróblewskiego (an above-ground and underground car park);
  • Plac Nowy Targ (an underground car park);
  • Małachowskiego – Wrocław Główny Railway Station (an above-ground and underground car park);
  • Plac Wolności – National Forum of Music (an underground car park).

There is also a developing network of points based on the park & ride concept, which encourage drivers to transfer from cars to public transport vehicles.

Basic information for foreigners travelling by car around Wroclaw

  • In Poland, right-hand traffic is in force.
  • The use of safety belts is obligatory (this does not apply to pregnant women or persons having a relevant certificate).
  • It is not allowed to carry children below 150 cm of height in the front seat without a baby seat. Carrying children without a baby seat is punishable with a fine of 150 PLN and 6 penalty points.
  • We use passing lamps all year round.
  • The speed limit in a built-up area during the day is 50 km/h.
  • The speed limit in a built-up area at night (from 11:00 p.m. till 5:00 a.m.) is 60 km/h.
  • If the driver exceeds the speed limit by 50 km/h in a built-up area, his driving licence may be withdrawn for 3 months.
  • In the very centre of the city, many streets are closed for traffic or are one-way streets.

Parking

A paid parking zone is also available with the following fees:

Tolls in the city centre paid parking zone (Zone A):

paid parking from 1st March 2021 for 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m.

  • 00 PLN for the first parking hour;
  • 30 PLN for the second parking hour;
  • 70 PLN for the third parking hour;
  • 00 PLN for the fourth and each next parking hour.

Tolls in the city centre paid parking zone (Zone B):

paid parking from 1st March 2021 for 7 days a week from 9:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m.

  • 00 PLN for the first parking hour;
  • 20 PLN for the second parking hour;
  • 50 PLN for the third parking hour;
  • 00 PLN for the fourth and each next parking hour.

In the paid parking zone (Zone C):

paid parking still valid from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m.

  • 00 PLN for the first parking hour;
  • 10 PLN for the second parking hour;
  • 30 PLN for the third parking hour;
  • 00 PLN for the fourth and each next parking hour.

Payments have to be made at parking meters. You can pay in coins, by mobile phone or by payment card.

Payments for parking can be made from Monday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. (Zone A and B) and from 9:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. (Zone C).

ATTENTION: parking meters do not give change. Upon payment, you should place your parking ticket behind the windscreen so that it could be inspected.
